Overview
Two mission-aligned food systems organizations seek an experienced facilitator to design and lead a two-day, in-person board training and strategic planning retreat in McKinney, Texas. The retreat will bring together staff (~3 total) and volunteer board members (~16 total) from both organizations for a collaborative and capacity-building experience.
About the Organizations
Council for Healthy Food Systems is a 501(c)3 organization in Texas that builds community, educates policymakers, and informs the public on healthy food systems—with an emphasis on diversified local and regional systems that are healthy, safe, economically sound, and environmentally sustainable.
Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance is a 501(c)4 organization based in Texas that supports independent family farmers and protects a healthy, productive food supply for American consumers, promoting common-sense policies for local, diversified agriculture.
These two organizations were co-created as sister organizations to grow and enhance community-based food systems change in Texas and nationally.
Retreat Goals
● Develop shared understanding and vision across staff and boards of both organizations
● Facilitate inclusive, mission-driven strategic planning processes
● Train volunteer board members in fundraising fundamentals, roles, and responsibilities
● Build cohesion and shared purpose across sister organizations
Scope of Work
● Collaborate with staff and board members in advance to design the two-day retreat agenda
● Facilitate sessions that engage participants in strategic planning, mission alignment, and goal setting
● Lead interactive board development training, including fundraising
● Work with staff to create first draft strategic plans for each organizations based on the on-site planning
Logistics
● Location: McKinney, Texas
● Format: In-person
● Dates: September 16th-17th
● Participants: ~20 total (staff and board members from two organizations)
Proposal Requirements
Please include the following in your submission:
● Brief description of your approach to strategic planning and board training for nonprofit organizations
● Relevant experience and qualifications, especially related to food systems, policy, or grassroots nonprofits
● Two references from similar engagements
● Proposed fee structure, including travel and prep time
